Traces: Kyung-Ae Hur

Donghwa Ode Gallery is proud to present “Traces”, featuring works by Kyung-Ae Hur.

Kyung Ae Hur’s pieces shine brightly with their vivid coloring and chaotic nature. Yet they are created in a meditative and contemplative manner. After layering acrylic paint, Hur methodically carves into the layers, revealing the history of the painting underneath. The pigment strips of these carvings are layered back onto the piece, through which Hur generates an entirely new landscape. Hur relates this process to that of archeology, in which history is uncovered and used to redefine a new story.
