FRED GUTZEIT

Through painting and digital media, Gutzeit reenvisions the landscape by transforming its natural elements into abstract graphic patterns of various organic shapes, executed in colors from the electromagnetic spectrum - red, yellow, and blue - together with black and white. Drawing parallels between the sound waves of music and the light waves of painting, the artist leverages the pulsating vibrations which emanate from his abstract patterns and colors to generate optical sensations. Gutzeit’s practice draws on an improvisational approach, with each work deriving inspiration from its predecessor, creating a unified sequence of distinctly individual works.

Fred Gutzeit has exhibited in numerous galleries and institutions locally as well as internationally including MoMa PSI (New York), James Cohan Gallery (New York), A.I.R. Gallery (New York), the Jewish Museum (New York), Bronx Museum of the Arts, Artists Space (New York), Cleveland Institute of Art Among others. He is also the recipient of three Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grants.
